G5 – Literature, Art and Transculturality
Coordination: Bruno Venâncio, Jeffrey Scott Childs
Literature, Art and Transculturalism is a research group that looks at the interrelationship and circulation of literatures, arts and culture from a global and non-nationalist perspective, considering the different modes of communication and the various literary, artistic and cultural relationships from an intercultural and international perspective. Within this framework, it aims to undertake scientific research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the area of Global Studies with regard to literary, artistic and cultural production, mediation, reception and circulation, considering both the history of these fields and new emerging contemporary forms, such as digital cultures. It also aims to reflect on the reciprocal and complex relationship between local, regional and national literatures, arts and cultures and literature, art and culture in a global sense. Its mission is to contribute to knowledge that can advance the issues facing humanity in today’s world.
Its members are especially committed to theoretical and methodological problems and to participating in theoretical and empirical research on the issues surrounding global literature and world literature, the worldification of inter-arts and intercultural studies, curricular policies for the humanities in a global system, intercultural measurement and the relationship between digital culture and transculturality. In collaboration with the Center’s other research groups, they will seek to reflect on the role of literature, art and culture in the global world, their relationship with other areas of knowledge and how they can contribute to solving the common problems facing humanity. In this sense, this group makes an unequivocal contribution to the interdisciplinary dimension of CEG-UAb, in the same way that, in conjunction with the other research groups, it aims to contribute to solving global problems and challenges by reflecting on the role of literature and culture in the global world.
