International Forum on Global Studies

Coordination: Cristina Vieira

As part of the Global Studies Doctoral Program (DEG), the International Forum on Global Studies (FIEG) is held annually. This forum is a space dedicated to the presentation and discussion of doctoral students’ work and serves as a venue for interaction between students and the teaching and supervisory team. The scientific program of FIEG is open to the public and features guest speakers, while the cultural and social program are reserved for the Global Studies Doctoral Program community. Included in the FIEG program is the Doctoral Workshop, also restricted to the DEG community. This workshop provides an opportunity for sharing experiences from the doctoral journey and for a general assessment of the doctoral program itself. Each annual edition of FIEG is organized by a team of doctoral students under the overall supervision of the Global Studies Doctoral Program coordination and is themed around a current topic related to Global Studies. The preparation and execution of this scientific and cultural event are characterized by the involvement of Universidade Aberta through its Local Learning Centers, in cooperation with municipal and regional entities. This approach contributes to the creation of “glocalized” knowledge, which emphasizes the interaction between the local and the global.
