Luana Oliveira is a doctoral candidate in Intercultural Relations at Universidade Aberta and a collaborating researcher at the Global Studies Centre (CEG-G1) of the same institution, holds a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies: Gender, Citizenship and Development, completed at Universidade Aberta in 2022. Her academic background also includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management from Faculdades Integradas de Cruzeiro (2015), and both a Licentiate degree (2009) and a Bachelor’s degree (2008) in Geography from the Federal University of Paraíba.
A significant milestone in her trajectory was the defense of her master’s dissertation, titled “Gender and Education: the school as a social mechanism to (de)construct gender stereotypes, based on the perception of 1st Cycle teachers and Kindergarten Educators” (2022). This work not only demonstrates her in-depth interest in gender issues but also yielded results in the realm of scientific dissemination, with the oral presentation “The School as a Social Mechanism to (De)construct Gender Stereotypes” at the XII Portuguese Congress of Sociology, held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra. Additionally, she participated as a speaker in the Webinar Cycle of the Postgraduate Program in Youth Studies at Universidade Aberta (UAb), with the oral communication “Teachers’ discourses on gender stereotypes: influence on the life trajectories of children and young people.” She is also the author of the chapter “Teachers’ discourses on gender stereotypes: influence on the life trajectories of children and young people,” to be published in the eBook “Youth Studies – international perspectives of research and intervention” by UAb in 2025.
Throughout her professional career, she has held various positions of trust in the public sector, working as a Teacher of Geography, History, Humanities, and in Vocational Courses.
Currently, she also dedicates herself to volunteer work through the Portuguese Platform for Women’s Rights (PpDM) and the Association of Women Without Borders (AMUSEF), actively engaging in political debates and discussions on relevant topics of personal interest, such as Gender Equality and the fight against Violence Against Women. Beyond her work in education, her political involvement and activism in social causes stand out, demonstrating a commitment to social transformation and the defense of women’s human rights.
