He was Director of the Unidade para a Aprendizagem ao Longo da Vida/ Unit for Lifelong Learning at Universidade Aberta (2009-2017), Pro-Rector for Aprendizagem ao Longo da Vida/ Lifelong Learning at Universidade Aberta (2011-2015) and Pro-Rector for Aprendizagem ao Longo da Vida e Extensão Cultural/ Lifelong Learning of Life and Cultural Extension of the Open University (2015-2019). Aggregation in the branch of History, specialty of Ancient History (2013, Universidade Aberta); PhD in the field of History, specialty of Ancient History (2002, Universidade Aberta); Master’s degree in History of Pre-Classical Civilizations – Egyptology variant (1993, Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas – Universidade Nova de Lisboa); Degree in History (1985, Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas – Universidade Nova de Lisboa). He coordinated, together with José Eduardo Franco de Research Group “Global History – Themes and Approaches” in Centro de Estudos Globais of Universidade Aberta.
