Graduated in Technological Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon, he completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, where he also earned a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.

He is a member of the Center for Structural Chemistry (CQE) – Institute of Molecular Sciences (IMS) at the Instituto Superior Técnico, recognized as excellent by the FCT.

He is an Associate Professor at Universidade Aberta, where, since January 2020, he has been the Director of the Unit for Lifelong Learning (UALV). He has also served as a member of the Management Board, the Editorial Board, and was the Director of the Department of Science and Technology for two consecutive terms, Vice-President of the Scientific Council for one term, and a member of the General Council for two terms.

He is the author and co-author of over 70 publications, including 2 book sections and 3 books; he has supervised 7 Ph.D. theses and 9 master’s dissertations. Some of his areas of interest lie within the Natural Sciences, with an emphasis on Earth and Environmental Sciences. In his curriculum, some of the most frequent terms in the context of scientific, technological, and artistic-cultural production are: Energy Storage, Phase Change Materials (PCM), vibrating wire viscometer, fluid viscosity, fluid surface tension, industrial reference fluids for viscosity, high pressure, diisodecyl phthalate, density measurements, electrolytic conductivity, ionic liquids, as well as online distance learning, e-learning, and online teaching of chemistry.
