She has a PhD in Sociology. She teaches at the Universidade Aberta (UAb, Portugal), at different academic levels (Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Masters and PhD), where she has been implementing new areas of learning and new UCs – from the areas of Sexuality, Young People and Gender. She is an integrated member of the Centre for Global Studies (CEG-UAb) – where she coordinates the Anthropocene, Sustainability and Development Group (ASD/CEG). She is a collaborating member of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa)n and the Centre for the Study of Migration and Intercultural Relations at the Open University (CEMRI-UAb). Based on the themes of sexuality and gender, she has invested in knowledge of the social reality of sexual identities and their aspects of identities and expressions, risks and vulnerabilities, well-being and health, which has been disseminated in scientific publications (articles, books, book chapters and teaching resources). She participates in different national and international scientific networks and groups, and is part of research teams in various projects – focusing on models of hegemonic masculinities; perceptions of the economic impact of the unequal sharing of unpaid labour in the lives of immigrant women and men; the life trajectories of LGBTI victims of domestic violence; dating violence and homophobic bullying, in their multiple configurations. In 2022, she was awarded the “Incentive Prize for Scientific Research” by Universidade Aberta – a prize that recognizes excellence in scientific research and production.
