Célia Ferreira is a Professor at Aberta University since 2019, where she lectures topics on Environmental Sciences and Technologies and Sustainability, being also responsible for the supervision of MSc and PhD students. Célia Ferreira works on innovative approaches that promote sustainable waste practices. Her work, closely aligned with UN’s SDG goals, integrates a technical perspective with public policy innovation, exploring community-based waste collection systems in developing cities and the effect of economic incentives on waste separation practices by local communities. She coordinated several projects, including a LIFE Environment project (2016-2021) and Strategic and Action Plans for biowaste for local authorities. Her publication record includes +100 papers and book chapters. In 2015 she was honoured as one of the 100 Portuguese Woman in Science “whose work was most relevant to the progress of the Portuguese Science and Technology in the last decades”. Since 2022 she is co-coordinator of the CEG research group Anthropocene, Development & Sustainability.
