Doctored from the University of Lisbon, he is currently Integrated Investigator at CHAM-Centre for the Humanities. His research interests comprise Modern philosophy, Portuguese thought, phenomenology, history and philosophy of medicine. He directed interdisciplinary projects such as: “Philosophy, medicine and society” (2007-2011), “Medical Art and scientific intelligibility in the Archipathologia (1614) by Filipe Montalto” (2013-2015). Author of numerous books and papers, namely “Fulgurações do eu” (2002), “O trabalho da mediação no pensamento leibniziano” (2008),“Labirinto do eu” (2019). Currently, he is coordinator, with Teresa Lousa, of the Seminar “Modes of Melancholy”, at the CHAM. Member of the Ethics Committee of the Instituto Português de Oncologia and of the Ethics Council of Champalimaud Foundation.
